I work on the obituary desk of The New York Times. Before starting at The Times, I wrote for The Economist, The Guardian, Dissent, and The New York Review of Books, where I was on the editorial staff from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, I moved to India, where I spent two and a half years working for Indian newspapers: The Telegraph of Calcutta and The Hindustan Times in Delhi. In 2023, I won the arts and culture reporting medallion from the Silurians Press Club.

This website features a selection of more than 500 articles I have written or contributed to for The New York Times, along with other past work. My interests include pugnacious thinkers, venerable restaurants, elderly raconteurs, and other improbable survivors.
